Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Saturday to attend the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in Kargil. Due to bad weather, he opted for a road journey to Drass instead of a helicopter ride. Upon his arrival at Srinagar International Airport, he was welcomed by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and other officials.
The Defence Minister’s original plan to reach Drass by helicopter had to be changed because of unfavorable weather conditions. Consequently, Rajnath Singh proceeded by road to Drass to participate in the commemorative events. The two-day Kargil Vijay Diwas program began at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, honoring the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26 in India, marks the victory of the Indian armed forces over Pakistan in the 1999 conflict. This year, the day signifies the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event is significant for commemorating the successful removal of Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions in Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999.
