Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh recently met with Defence Ministers from New Zealand and Singapore during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. The discussions primarily focused on strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing maritime cooperation, and advancing information-sharing mechanisms. The Ministry of Defence highlighted the importance of these engagements in promoting a secure and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
The Shangri-La Dialogue, currently taking place in Singapore, serves as a platform for plenary debates led by government ministers and offers valuable opportunities for bilateral discussions among delegations. Singh’s interactions included a meeting with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to further solidify strategic ties and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
In addition to these meetings, Singh engaged with officials from Sweden, the Netherlands, and the European Union to explore avenues for enhancing defence cooperation and strategic partnerships. Discussions with various counterparts focused on strengthening military ties, exploring defence technology and innovation collaborations, and deepening strategic dialogues.
Singh also met with Australia’s Defence Secretary Meghan Quinn to review the progress of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discuss future high-level engagements. Both sides expressed interest in expanding defence cooperation in areas of mutual interest, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
