Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Japan’s Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi to discuss regional situations and defense industry cooperation. Koizumi mentioned that it was Singh’s first visit to Japan, and they had a productive exchange on various topics. Singh also paid respects at the Self-Defense Forces Memorial Stone in Tokyo to honor fallen soldiers.
Rajesh Kumar Singh’s visit to Tokyo followed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent visit to India. During Takaichi’s visit, both countries discussed a wide range of issues at the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit. The leaders focused on bilateral ties, trade, investment, energy, defense, and global developments of mutual interest.
At the 16th Annual India-Japan Summit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi exchanged key Memoranda of Understanding and agreements covering economic security, clean energy, critical technologies, and research and development. The talks resulted in significant progress on shared priorities and the adoption of essential documents to enhance cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi hosted a dinner for Prime Minister Takaichi in New Delhi, where they addressed the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum. The discussions centered on boosting investment, strengthening supply chains, and promoting manufacturing partnerships, emphasizing the ‘Make in India for the World’ initiative. Both sides highlighted the importance of industry in advancing their strategic partnership.
