The Delhi Assembly Secretariat received updates from Punjab’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Alok Shekhar and state police Chief Gaurav Yadav regarding the FIR linked to a video clip involving Atishi, the city’s Leader of Opposition. Draft responses from the officials are under review by the Punjab government before being sent to the Delhi Assembly Secretariat. The replies are expected to be presented to the Committee of Privileges of the Delhi Assembly after formal submission by the Punjab Home department.
Punjab’s District Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur forwarded a response copy to the Delhi Assembly through the state police chief, awaiting approval from the Punjab government. The Privileges Committee of Delhi Assembly had set a deadline for Punjab officials to submit their replies by Friday, following which specific documents were requested, including the FIR, complaint copies, and reports from various authorities. The FIR, filed in Jalandhar, stemmed from a complaint about a video clip related to Atishi’s statement in the Delhi Assembly.
The Delhi Assembly Secretariat had urged Punjab officials to provide their responses and documents within the stipulated timeframe to avoid potential breach of privilege and contempt. The Punjab government, in its communication, mentioned that comprehensive replies are being finalized and sent for approval. The ongoing examination by the Committee of Privileges focuses on the alleged breach of privilege and contempt due to statements made in the House and subsequent actions by the Punjab Police.
