The Delhi BJP, led by Harsh Malhotra, organized a seminar to remember the Emergency imposed by the Congress government in 1975. The event aimed to honor 115 Loktantra Senanis who faced hardships during that period. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the significance of ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ in Indian history, drawing parallels to the victory of truth over falsehood symbolized by burning Ravana’s effigy on Dussehra.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani emphasized the importance of learning from history to prevent its repetition. She underscored the need for young people to understand the struggles faced during the Emergency and the importance of upholding democracy. Delhi BJP Chief Malhotra stressed the curtailment of press freedom, removal of privileges, and hardships faced by opposition workers and citizens during the Emergency. He emphasized the role of an independent judiciary, a free press, and aware citizens in upholding democracy.
The seminar also featured Loktantra Senani and BJP Parliamentary Board member Satyanarayan Jatiya. Notable democracy warriors were honored during the event, including O.P. Babbar, Nand Kishore Garg, Lal Bihari Tiwari, and others. MPs and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood attended the program to pay tribute to the Loktantra Senanis for their contributions during the Emergency.
