Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for reportedly attending a one-day Labour Day session in the state Assembly under the influence of alcohol. Sachdeva expressed concern over CM Mann’s behavior in the Assembly, questioning the Speaker’s role in allowing him to speak in a seemingly intoxicated state. This is not the first instance of such behavior by Mann, as he had allegedly entered a legislative body under the influence of alcohol during his tenure as a Member of Parliament.
Sachdeva remarked that CM Mann’s appearance in the Assembly, appearing frustrated and allegedly intoxicated, reflects a lack of confidence in the stability of the Punjab government. He emphasized the need for immediate disciplinary action by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal in response to the shocking behavior witnessed by the people of Punjab, Delhi, and the rest of the country. BJP Punjab President Sunil Jakhar also called for a breath alcohol analyser test before any floor test in the Punjab Assembly amid ongoing political tensions.
Jakhar’s demand for an alcohol test on all MLAs present in the Assembly followed acrimonious scenes during the Special Session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, where the Congress staged a walkout. Allegations of Chief Minister Mann attending the House in an inebriated state prompted calls for transparency through alcohol testing of all legislators. Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa echoed the demand for a closed-door alcohol test on all MLAs to ensure accountability and transparency in the Assembly proceedings.
