Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, Venugopal Rao, reassured that pacer Lungi Ngidi’s head injury, sustained during an IPL match against Punjab Kings, is not severe. Ngidi was taken to Max Hospital for tests after falling and hitting his head on the ground during the game. Despite the incident, Rao emphasized that the injury is not critical and updates on Ngidi’s condition will follow.
Rao also clarified the confusion surrounding the concussion substitution rule during the match. He explained that only four overseas players are allowed, preventing the team from fielding a fifth overseas player. Rao underscored the importance of player safety, acknowledging the impact of Ngidi’s absence on the game’s outcome.
Yuzvendra Chahal, from Punjab Kings, expressed concern for Ngidi’s well-being, highlighting the seriousness of head injuries in sports. Chahal wished for Ngidi’s speedy recovery, emphasizing the collective sentiment of hoping for his swift return to the field. Additionally, Rao confirmed that Mitchell Starc will be available to play for Delhi Capitals starting May 1, following Cricket Australia’s report.
Delhi Capitals had set a formidable target of 264/2, led by KL Rahul’s unbeaten 152, but Punjab Kings successfully chased it down with seven balls to spare, marking the highest successful chase in IPL history.
