Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has allocated special financial assistance exceeding Rs 3,000 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to enhance the city’s infrastructure and cleanliness. The support is aimed at improving road infrastructure, sanitation systems, municipal schools, and civic facilities throughout Delhi. This move underscores the government’s dedication to decentralized and efficient governance, crucial for the overall progress of the capital.

The allocated funds, including provisions from the Chief Minister’s Development Fund (CMDF), will focus on projects within the Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction, such as road paving and development works totaling around Rs 1,330 crore for the upcoming financial year. These projects will involve the construction, repair, and reinforcement of nearly 1,000 kilometers of roads to combat dust pollution, especially during peak pollution months post-monsoon.

To ensure timely completion of road improvement works, the Chief Minister has directed officials to finish major projects by September 30. Emphasizing the importance of expediting administrative processes and maintaining transparency in tendering, she highlighted that these efforts will alleviate pollution concerns and bolster the city’s infrastructure. Additionally, a long-term project worth about Rs 2,300 crore has been approved to modernize Delhi’s sanitation system, introducing 70 new mechanical road sweeping machines and 1,000 electric litter pickers for enhanced cleaning coverage.

In the education sector, an extra Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for the enhancement of MCD primary schools, focusing on infrastructure strengthening, sanitation facility upgrades, classroom modernization, and creating a conducive learning environment. Furthermore, a separate allocation of Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned for the repair and enhancement of community buildings under the Municipal Corporation, targeting the improvement of 298 community buildings, particularly in economically weaker sections, frequently used for social gatherings.
