Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, unveiled 18 “Namo Oxygen Parks” in the city. These parks aim to enhance air quality, biodiversity, and offer recreational spaces for residents. The inauguration coincided with the launch of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on World Environment Day 2026.
Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the importance of planting 15 lakh saplings and urged citizens to actively participate in the green initiative. She proposed the establishment of local caretaking committees to ensure the growth of saplings into trees that contribute to environmental cleanliness. Additionally, she highlighted the support received from top leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the fight against pollution.
The event, held at the Maidangarhi Namo Oxygen Park, signifies a significant move towards strengthening urban greenery, improving air quality, and fostering community-driven environmental stewardship. Chief Minister Gupta encouraged Delhi residents to engage in the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign, emphasizing the importance of planting and nurturing saplings for a greener Delhi.
Union Minister Yadav outlined the Delhi government’s efforts, in collaboration with the Commission for Air Quality Management, to tackle air pollution sources such as road dust, vehicular emissions, and industrial pollution. Initiatives include the installation of monitoring systems, air pollution control devices, road cleaning, and a shift towards electric mobility. He also highlighted nationwide urban greening projects like Namo Vans to enhance ecological assets.
