Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta initiated a five-day ‘Seva & Rescue Campaign’ to assist destitute, sick, and homeless individuals by transporting them to secure shelter facilities. Specially equipped ambulances and rescue vehicles will locate and transfer these vulnerable people from streets, pavements, and public areas to safe accommodations. The campaign, operational from May 11 to May 15 in all 13 districts, involves 19 rescue ambulances, 10 support vehicles, around 100 staff members, and 50 dedicated volunteers working tirelessly.
The primary goal of this initiative is to provide immediate aid to over 300 at-risk individuals enduring harsh living conditions throughout the city. Those rescued will be housed at Apna Ghar Ashram, where they will receive medical care, nutritious meals, and respectful treatment. The facility can host up to 500 destitute persons, with separate provisions for women and men, ensuring a total of 100 beds for women and 400 for men.
Efforts will be made to reunite rescued individuals with their families if identified and willing to take them back after recovery. For those lacking family support, Apna Ghar Ashram will continue to offer compassionate care with dignity and humanity. The Chief Minister flagged off a fleet of specialized ambulances and rescue vehicles as part of this extensive five-day operation spanning all districts of Delhi.
The campaign is a collaborative effort involving the Delhi Government’s Department of Social Welfare, Apna Ghar Ashram, and Seva Bharti. Notable figures such as Shakur Basti MLA Karnail Singh, Apna Ghar Ashram founder Dr. B.M. Bhardwaj, Seva Bharti Delhi state president Ramesh Agrawal, senior government officials, and representatives from social organizations attended the launch event. To ensure the campaign’s success, a 24×7 ‘one-window system’ has been established in coordination with the Social Welfare Department, with approximately 20 successful rescues already completed in the initial phase.
