Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken decisive action following a biker’s tragic death in a ditch in Janakpuri. She has instructed all departments to promptly implement safety measures and issued an eight-point directive to prevent similar incidents. Emphasizing the need for strict adherence to safety protocols, the Chief Minister has called for accountability among officials and contractors.
In response to the Chief Minister’s directives, Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma has mandated a comprehensive safety framework to be followed rigorously during construction, repair, and maintenance activities involving excavation in Delhi. All departments and organizations have been tasked with conducting a swift review of current and recent excavation projects within three days.
The safety measures encompass various aspects, including the display of warning signs at work sites, installation of reflector lights and barricades, and ensuring clear visibility of safety precautions. The directive applies to a range of government bodies and agencies, including the Public Works Department, Delhi Jal Board, and municipal corporations, among others. Accountability will be enforced, and stringent action will be taken for any identified lapses in safety protocols.
