Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has initiated a thorough structural audit of all government schools in the national capital to evaluate the condition of infrastructure and essential facilities. This audit will focus on assessing the structural integrity, safety of school buildings, and the availability of basic amenities like drinking water, toilets, cleanliness, and fire safety systems. The decision follows a surprise inspection by the Chief Minister of a government school due to complaints about inadequate basic facilities.
The Chief Minister’s inspection revealed deficiencies in essential facilities at the school, prompting her to criticize the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for neglecting ground-level issues despite promoting its education model. During the visit to Government Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Roop Nagar Number 4, Chief Minister Gupta interacted with students, addressing concerns about water facilities, fire safety, hygiene, teacher availability, and overall academic environment. Students highlighted issues such as lack of clean drinking water, non-functional water coolers, broken toilets, and an ineffective fire safety system.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the observed lapses, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the importance of children’s safety and instructed officials to promptly rectify safety-related deficiencies at the school. She stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring sensitivity, accountability, and meeting students’ genuine needs within the education system. The structural audit, covering infrastructure conditions and essential facilities in around 700 Delhi government schools, aims to address the deteriorating state of many aging school buildings.
