Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has proposed the reshuffling of 74 government doctors, with 39 currently stationed in Tihar and Mandoli jails for over 5 years, to enhance healthcare services. The move aims to bolster the administrative structure of healthcare services and enhance human resource management effectiveness. The transfer plan includes both specialist doctors and General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs), some of whom have been stationed at the same location since 2014, exceeding 11 years.
The recommendation also involves replacing these long-serving doctors with approximately 35 other medical professionals, totaling 74 transfers. Chief Minister Gupta emphasizes that regular human resource management and periodic reviews of postings can enhance healthcare service efficiency. The Delhi government is committed to strengthening various Health Department units to be more capable, responsive, and focused on public welfare, ensuring optimal utilization of human resources for quality healthcare services.
Chief Minister Gupta highlights the importance of administrative reforms, balanced resource utilization, and accountability in fortifying the healthcare system. Recent restructuring efforts within the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) under the Health and Family Welfare Department involved transferring over 40 medical, paramedical, and administrative officers to enhance procurement, supply, and administrative systems. The government’s objective is to ensure adequate human resources in every Health Department unit, strengthen institutional capacity, and optimize resource utilization.
In line with the broader administrative reform and human resource management strategy, the recommendation to transfer long-serving doctors from Tihar and Mandoli jails underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services through strategic human resource deployment.
