New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday described the life sentence awarded by a city court to the then AAP councillor Tahir Hussain in the 2020 Ankit Sharma murder case as the triumph of justice.

In a message on X, CM Gupta said, “Today, justice has triumphed. This verdict further strengthens the faith of every citizen of the country in the law and the judiciary.”

“We welcome the decision of the Hon’ble Court to sentence former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain and five other convicts to life imprisonment in the murder case of the late IB officer Ankit Sharma,” she said

“Today, the people of Delhi demand answers from the Aam Aadmi Party. Tahir Hussain was arrested on charges of murder, yet even after that, Mr Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia stood in his support! They kept trying relentlessly to save him! Why? Will Mr Kejriwal tell the people of Delhi? Was it under their patronage that people like Tahir Hussain conspired to incite riots?” asked the Chief Minister.

Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra also hailed the court’s decision to sentence the then AAP municipal councillor Tahir Hussain to a life term.

He stated that the judgment has separated fact from fiction by establishing how AAP-backed miscreants spread riots in East Delhi and brutally murdered Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma.

Malhotra said that AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal should be ashamed for not only sheltering such criminals within the party but also for repeatedly using his influence to protect them.

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, in a social media post, said, “Tahir Hussain’s life imprisonment sentence is the beginning of justice. The cruelty with which Ankit Sharma ji was killed, stabbed with knives even after death, the body thrown into a drain — this is certainly the ‘Rarest of Rare’. It is hoped that in the High Court, this life imprisonment will be converted to the death penalty.”
