The Cyber Police Station in Delhi’s Central District has dismantled a sophisticated online investment fraud scheme involving a work-from-home scam and apprehended three suspects from different states. The accused individuals, identified as Sandeep Sain, Parikshit, and Sachin Jhakkar, allegedly scammed a government employee out of around Rs 15.74 lakh through deceptive investment schemes conducted on WhatsApp and Telegram.
The case came to light on July 14, 2025, when a complaint was filed by a government employee working with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in New Delhi. The victim reported being lured by individuals posing as representatives of a work-from-home company specializing in property rental ratings and leasing tasks. Subsequently, he was added to a Telegram group, trained, and instructed to register on various websites.
The fraudsters initially rewarded the victim with small profits for completing tasks and depositing money, gradually building his trust. They then convinced him to invest larger amounts in schemes like “charter leases” and “bonus tasks” promising high returns. Despite transferring approximately Rs 15.74 lakh, the victim was unable to withdraw any funds as the fraudsters demanded an additional payment for withdrawal, leading him to realize he had been scammed and report the incident to the police.
A dedicated police team, led by Inspector Yograj Dalal and ACP Padam Singh Rana, was formed to investigate the organized cyber fraud network. Through technical surveillance and field inquiries, the team identified and arrested the suspects, each playing a specific role in facilitating the movement of the fraudulent funds. The police recovered incriminating evidence, including mobile phones used in the crime, and are continuing their efforts to apprehend other members of the fraud syndicate.
