Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu hailed the newly opened Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor as a significant development, aiming to improve the quality of life for NCR residents. The project, costing Rs 11,868 crore, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signifying a major milestone in India’s infrastructure progress.
Sandhu emphasized the corridor’s impact on travel, stating that it will slash the journey time from Delhi to Dehradun from nearly 6 hours to just over 2.5 hours. The expressway, starting from key locations like Akshardham and Geeta Colony, is expected to ease traffic congestion in the city and boost regional trade, tourism, and economic activities.
Furthermore, Sandhu highlighted the corridor’s eco-friendly aspects, including Asia’s largest elevated wildlife corridor, showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability. Described as more than just a road, the corridor is seen as a vital pathway for progress, set to enhance the living standards of millions in the National Capital Region and beyond.
Prime Minister Modi praised the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor as a top-notch infrastructure project that will enhance connectivity and promote tourism in the area. He underscored his government’s dedication to developing roads, highways, and major infrastructure, noting a significant increase in infrastructure spending post-2014, with substantial investments in Uttarakhand for creating world-class facilities.
