Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood lauded Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Budget 2026-27 as a people-centric Green Budget that focuses on education. Sood highlighted the allocation of Rs 19,148 crore, the highest share in the budget at 18.64%, showcasing the government’s commitment to education. Under Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi government is actively working on economic and social development initiatives outlined in the Viksit Delhi Sankalp Patra 2025.
The budget, according to Sood, is not just about numbers but sets the course for economic and social sectors like power, roads, education, health, and women and child welfare. Comparing previous budgets, he noted a significant increase from Rs 76,000 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 1,03,700 crore in 2026-27, indicating sustained development focus. Capital expenditure (Capex) has also risen substantially, reaching Rs 30,800 crore in 2026-27, reflecting robust infrastructure growth.
Sood emphasized the importance of ensuring that economic indicators like GDP growth, per capita income, and capex translate into tangible benefits for the public. The Budget 2026-27 under the Rekha Gupta government aligns with this vision, addressing public needs and aspirations. Initiatives such as the free bicycle scheme for 1.30 lakh Class 9 girls and investments in education technology and infrastructure signify a forward-looking approach.
Rs 200 crore has been earmarked for new school construction, Rs 275 crore for school expansions, and Rs 50 crore for sports facilities development. Additionally, Rs 700 crore is allocated for technical education to empower youth towards entrepreneurship. The government aims to foster innovation through startup and incubation policies, promoting a dynamic ecosystem for growth.
