Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister, Ravinder Indraj Singh, mentioned that the state government is partnering with NGOs to support individuals engaged in begging. The initiative includes providing counseling, skill training, and job opportunities to help them achieve self-reliance. Minister Singh highlighted the importance of enrolling children in schools, offering skill development for women, and the SMILE Scheme’s role in addressing the issue of begging.

Efforts are underway to integrate destitute individuals into society and provide them with a dignified life. The Delhi government, in collaboration with social organizations, is actively working towards this goal. The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing rehabilitation efforts for individuals involved in begging and enhancing their access to livelihood opportunities.

NGOs presented detailed accounts of their work during the meeting, showcasing the impact of surveys conducted in various parts of Delhi. They emphasized providing counseling, shelter, and employment opportunities to transition individuals away from begging. Many beneficiaries have been supported in securing accommodation, exploring self-employment options, and accessing government schemes for financial inclusion.
