The Delhi government recently undertook a significant demolition operation in the Haiderpur village area of Shalimar Bagh to enforce a Supreme Court ruling against unauthorized constructions on public Right of Way.
The District Magistrate of Central-North District, S.S. Parihar, confirmed that the demolition was in line with court directives. A survey conducted on January 10, 2026, revealed 143 unauthorized permanent constructions within the designated 30-meter Right of Way.
The land in question, identified as government land in the Master Plan of the Delhi Development Authority, forms part of Road No. 320’s prescribed Right of Way. The government clarified that the demolition will continue until all illegal structures are removed to facilitate a road widening project.
The affected road serves as a crucial traffic corridor connecting the Shalimar Bagh Railway Under Bridge to the Outer Ring Road. Encroachments have significantly narrowed the road, leading to frequent traffic congestion and hindering emergency services’ access.
The acquisition process for this land began in the late 1950s, with possession and compensation completed over four decades ago. Recent surveys using advanced technology confirmed the encroachments, prompting the government’s decisive action to restore the road’s intended width.
