As Delhi faces soaring summer temperatures, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the accelerated implementation of the Heat Wave Action Plan 2026 to protect residents. The government has taken various steps, including ensuring essential medicines at 339 health centers and setting up ‘cool rooms’ in over 30 hospitals for immediate relief. Moreover, 330 ambulances are now operational around the clock to enhance emergency response.
Authorities are also installing Water ATMs, water coolers, and cooling points across the city to address hydration needs. The initiative aims to provide easy access to drinking water, especially for daily wage workers and those exposed to outdoor conditions. Additionally, schools have introduced a ‘Water Bell System’ to remind students to stay hydrated regularly and adjusted work timings in some sectors to reduce exposure to extreme heat.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta advised citizens to take precautions like avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable family members. With high temperatures expected to persist, the Delhi government’s proactive measures seek to minimize heat-related risks and enhance community resilience against heatwaves.
