Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the initiation of the Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons, ensuring continued support for orphaned individuals beyond the age of 18. The scheme, introduced on Mother’s Day, aims to provide assistance in higher education, job placements, and skill development programs. With a budget of Rs 3.5 crore allocated for this fiscal year, the scheme emphasizes fostering a secure and independent future for every young adult.
The Aftercare Scheme offers eligible beneficiaries opportunities for college education, vocational training, and skill enhancement. It also focuses on facilitating internships and employment prospects for the youth. Financial aid and a monthly stipend form part of the comprehensive support system outlined by the Delhi government. Chief Minister Gupta highlighted the importance of nurturing a sense of belonging and empowerment among young adults transitioning into independent living.
In observance of Mother’s Day, Chief Minister Gupta visited the Village Cottage Home in Lajpat Nagar, interacting with children under the care of the Women and Child Development Department. She emphasized the government’s commitment to providing holistic care, education, and essential support to children up to 18 years old through various Child Care Institutions. Additionally, Delhi already operates aftercare homes for young adults, offering accommodation, educational assistance, and essential amenities to aid in their journey towards self-sufficiency.
Chief Minister Gupta underscored the government’s proactive approach in equipping children in care with essential life skills, education, and vocational training to ensure a smooth transition into adulthood. Recognizing the challenges faced by young adults leaving childcare institutions, the government aims to bridge the gap by providing comprehensive support in education, skill acquisition, employment opportunities, and financial stability. The focus remains on empowering individuals to lead fulfilling, dignified lives post-care.
