Acting on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s orders, the Delhi government has reconstituted the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) to address top-level vacancies that had paralyzed the commission for almost three years.

A notification from the Department of Women and Child Development announced the reconstitution, appointing a Chairperson and four Members to the Commission. The appointments were made in accordance with the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2008, and a relevant notification from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Om Prakash Vyas has been named as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights, while Rahul Gautam, Kundan Kanskar, Swati Gupta, and Monika Sharma have been appointed as Members of the Commission, as per the notification.

The term for each appointee will be three years, with provisions for early termination if the age limit is reached. The Chairperson’s maximum age limit is 65 years, while for Members, it is 60 years, as stated in the official announcement.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of ensuring every child’s right to a secure and dignified childhood with ample opportunities. She reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing children’s rights and highlighted the significance of strengthening the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights in achieving this goal.

Gupta expressed confidence in the new leadership of the Commission, expecting them to uphold children’s rights with sensitivity, transparency, and accountability. She affirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding children’s interests and fostering their comprehensive development.
