In a positive development for residents in Delhi’s ‘Lal Dora’ region, the Delhi government plans to provide digital property cards for their residential properties within the city limits.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a review meeting of the ‘SVAMITVA’ program, focusing on the distribution of smart property cards. The move aims to address the challenges faced by residents in ‘Lal Dora’ areas due to the absence of organized property records.
The government intends to issue smart property cards to eligible individuals, with preparations underway for a significant event to mark the occasion. Digital records of ‘Lal Dora’ properties are being established, and residents will soon receive smart PVC cards equipped with QR codes.
According to official data, 48 villages were surveyed under the SVAMITVA initiative, with digital property cards already prepared for 30 villages. Chief Minister Gupta confirmed that the final property cards are ready, ensuring digital ownership for residents in these areas.
The process includes surveys covering 12,232 properties, of which 8,423 were found to be free of disputes, accounting for about 69% of the surveyed properties. The issuance of smart property cards for these properties is now in progress, as announced by Chief Minister Gupta.
She emphasized that the government aims to provide citizens with modern, secure digital documents through smart plastic property ownership cards. These high-quality PVC cards will adhere to UIDAI standards and display various property details for easy identification.
The SVAMITVA scheme, led by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, was initiated in 2020 to grant legal ownership of rural residential land through drone-based surveys. The process involves demarcating ‘Lal Dora’ area boundaries, conducting aerial drone surveys of villages, and verifying survey maps against ground realities for accurate property documentation.
