Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu has instructed officials to accelerate reforms to improve Ease of Living and transition to a ‘Permitted Until Prohibited’ system by June 30. Emphasizing the Prime Minister’s goal of reducing compliance burdens and enhancing citizens’ quality of life, Sandhu highlighted the need for reforms to boost efficiency, transparency, and opportunities for Delhi residents. He also indicated plans to expedite the Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026, to simplify approvals and compliance processes.
Sandhu stressed the importance of implementing all priority areas identified by the Government of India for Ease of Doing Business reforms by the specified deadline. He underscored the ongoing efforts to strengthen the business environment in Delhi through a Deregulation Exercise aimed at facilitating business operations and improving the overall quality of life in the city. Sandhu expressed satisfaction with Delhi’s progress, moving from ‘Achievers’ to ‘Exemplar’ status in the 2025 LEADS rankings among Union Territories.
The focus remains on transitioning to a ‘Permitted Until Prohibited’ system by eliminating longstanding regulatory obstacles and streamlining governance frameworks, according to Sandhu. While expediting the Omnibus Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026, to simplify procedures, he highlighted the need to uphold service quality and safety standards across all sectors. Sandhu reiterated the commitment to a governance model that combines efficiency with excellence for the benefit of all residents, aligning with the vision of a developed Delhi.
Congratulating students from Delhi University’s Hansraj College for qualifying in the UPSC and State Civil Services examinations, Sandhu emphasized the responsibility of public service and the significant impact civil servants have on citizens’ lives. He underscored the vital role of integrity, competence, empathy, and commitment in ensuring good governance within public institutions, emphasizing the importance of ethical and responsible decision-making.
