New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) In what appears to be a case of personal enmity, a 28-year-old man has been arrested by Delhi Police for deliberately planting illegal firearms at his brother-in-law’s residence to falsely implicate him in criminal cases, officials said on Sunday.
A team of the Welcome Police Station (PS) successfully unearthed the alleged conspiracy of the accused and recovered two country-made pistols from his possession, leading to the registration of a fresh Arms Act case.
An official statement said that on July 31, during investigation of FIR No. 388/2026, U/s 25 Arms Act, PS Welcome, a police team comprising Head Constables Lalit, Harender, Kuldeep, Constable Ravi, and Soni under the supervision of Inspector Rupesh Kumar Khatri, SHO/PS Welcome, reached Ghaziabad’s DLF Border, at Rajiv Colon’s Gali No. 4, and apprehended the accused from his mobile repair shop.
The accused, who has been identified as Mohd. Waseem, is a resident of the national capital’s Sunder Nagri area.
According to the police, upon sustained interrogation, Mohd. Waseem initially attempted to mislead the investigating team by giving false statements. However, upon persistent questioning, he confessed to hatching a conspiracy against his brother-in-law Ashraf.
The accused disclosed that Ashraf had married his sister-in-law against the wishes of the family, due to which he harboured deep personal resentment. As a result of this enmity, Waseem clandestinely planted three country-made pistols at Ashraf’s rented house situated at JB-6/199 in Delhi’s Welcome area, on different occasions.
Thereafter, using the fictitious name “Arjun”, the accused informed the police about the hidden arms to falsely implicate 29-year-old Mohd. Ashraf in an Arms Act case, wherein a country-made pistol was recovered from the premises of the latter, also a resident of Sunder Nagri, and he was therefore arrested.
Following the interrogation of accused Mohd. Waseem, a raiding team under the supervision of the SHO, PS Welcome, reached the said premises. In the presence of the house owner Anwar and accused Ashraf, Waseem pointed out the exact locations where he had concealed the weapons. A thorough search resulted in the recovery of two country-made pistols from the premises. One country-made pistol had already been recovered on July 16 from the same house during the previous investigation in connection with FIR No. 388/2026.
On the basis of the fresh recovery and disclosure, FIR No. 416/2026 U/s 25 Arms Act was registered at PS Welcome against Mohd. Waseem and he was arrested.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the alleged conspiracy.
