An FIR has been lodged against Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra by the Punjab Police, triggering a response from Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva. Sachdeva emphasized that since the incident occurred within the Delhi Assembly, the Punjab Police lacks jurisdiction in the matter. He highlighted that the objectionable remark against Sikh Gurus was made by the Leader of Opposition, Atishi Marlena, inside the Vidhan Sabha, further asserting that neither the Punjab government nor the Punjab Police hold any authority in this case.
Sachdeva expressed surprise at the Aam Aadmi Party’s reaction following the incident, particularly as Atishi was not present in the Delhi Assembly. He pointed out that matters within the Assembly fall under the Speaker’s jurisdiction, dismissing the AAP’s calls for a forensic investigation as suspicious. Sachdeva affirmed that neither Kapil Mishra nor any BJP MLA would be intimidated, stressing that the people of Punjab and Delhi would not tolerate any disrespect towards their Gurus.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate confirmed the registration of an FIR based on a complaint regarding the uploading and circulation of an edited video featuring former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. The video, with allegedly derogatory remarks against Sikh gurus, was shared on social media platforms. Investigations, including forensic analysis, revealed that the video was doctored to attribute words to Atishi that she did not utter. BJP MLAs protested in the Delhi Assembly against Atishi’s alleged use of insensitive language towards a Sikh Guru during a recent session.
