Delhi-NCR woke up to warm and humid conditions on Monday morning, with residents enduring uncomfortable weather due to the delayed monsoon. Relief may be on the horizon as the India Meteorological Department forecasts rain and thunderstorms in the region, signaling the onset of monsoon showers.
The IMD predicts the southwest monsoon’s advancement over North India in the coming days, offering hope for respite from the scorching temperatures. Despite the impending monsoon, heatwave warnings have been issued for parts of Uttar Pradesh on July 28 and 29, emphasizing the persistent heat.
As the monsoon progresses, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other regions are expected to witness rain-bearing systems extending over the next few days. The delayed monsoon has led to unusually warm conditions in Delhi, with the city recording its highest morning temperature in nearly two years, intensifying discomfort for residents.
Private weather agency Skymet anticipates the monsoon’s arrival in Delhi around July 4, provided favorable atmospheric conditions persist. The city’s maximum temperature soared to 41.8 degrees Celsius, exacerbating the heatwave conditions, while the heat index peaked at 51.3 degrees Celsius, reflecting the oppressive weather conditions.
Meteorologists attribute the extreme discomfort to high humidity levels and a wet-bulb temperature of 29.77 degrees Celsius, hindering the body’s cooling mechanisms. Despite the heatwave conditions, there is a glimmer of hope as thunderstorms and rainfall are forecasted, offering temporary relief from the stifling weather in Delhi.
