Delhi-NCR is set to undergo a significant weather shift on Tuesday, as per the India Meteorological Department’s ‘yellow alert.’ The region is expected to have overcast skies with the likelihood of light rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Weather conditions are anticipated to escalate during the afternoon, evening, and night hours, with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 kmph.
The IMD’s local forecast suggests that Tuesday’s maximum temperature will be around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecasted at 27 degrees Celsius. The day is expected to see thunderstorms accompanied by rain, strong winds, and lightning throughout. In the forenoon, there may be light rainfall with thunder, lightning, and gusty winds blowing at 30 to 40 kmph.
The evening and night hours are likely to witness similar weather patterns, with light rainfall predicted in various NCR areas. Residents are advised to be cautious, avoiding open spaces, trees, and electric poles during thunderstorms. Traffic disruptions are possible due to heavy rain and winds. Farmers and construction workers are urged to take necessary safety measures.
Looking ahead to May 13, partly cloudy skies and the chance of thunderstorms are expected to persist, with temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius as the maximum and 26 degrees Celsius as the minimum. However, conditions are anticipated to improve starting May 14, with temperatures gradually rising. The forecast indicates temperatures of 37/25 degrees Celsius on May 14, 38/26 degrees on May 15, 39/27 degrees on May 16, and 40/27 degrees Celsius on May 17. Clear skies are expected during this period, with no weather alerts issued.
The sudden weather change in the NCR region is attributed to a Western Disturbance and local meteorological activities. The temporary relief from heat due to rain and strong winds is expected to lead to an improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI). Recorded AQI levels in various areas range from 122 to 194, with experts noting the impact of the weather shift on air quality.
