Delhi-NCR is expected to have a week of thunderstorms and rainfall as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD forecasts that temperatures in the region will stay below 40 degrees Celsius until June 5.
On Tuesday, Delhi saw a maximum temperature of 37.7 degrees Celsius, which is 2.3 degrees Celsius lower than the normal. Recent days of milder weather in the city brought some relief to the residents. The IMD data indicates that temperatures at various monitoring stations in Delhi remained below normal, with readings ranging from 2.5 to 5 degrees Celsius lower than the seasonal average.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported on Tuesday that El Nino conditions are developing due to warm ocean waters in the tropical Pacific. This is expected to impact global temperature and rainfall patterns, raising the likelihood of extreme weather events in the upcoming months. WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo warned of the potential for a strong El Nino event, which could worsen droughts, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves on land and in the ocean.
