Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently evaluated the city’s readiness for heavy rainfall and the execution of the Urban Flood Mitigation Plan at a Delhi Disaster Management Authority meeting. Officials were cautioned by the L-G that negligence in following guidelines to prevent waterlogging would have consequences. The number of waterlogging sites has notably decreased from 194 in 2024 to 34 presently in 2026, as shared during the meeting.

The progress in establishing the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Delhi was also discussed at the meeting, as per an official statement. Notable attendees included Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh and Ashish Sood, along with various high-ranking officials from relevant departments. Despite improvements in flood management compared to previous years, the L-G emphasized the need for further enhancements, especially in light of predicted heavy rainfall spells.

Delhi’s Chief Minister expressed contentment with the ongoing desilting efforts but stressed the proper disposal of the removed silt. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of covering drains, sewer lines, and manholes promptly, while addressing any potholes without delay. The meeting also addressed the proactive removal of hazardous trees prone to falling during storms or heavy rains, with a directive to identify and eliminate such risks promptly to avert potential tragedies.
