Delhi Police’s East District staff swiftly apprehended a 22-year-old accused during area patrolling, seizing 50.88 grams of ganja and a stolen motorcycle connected to another police station. The police action aimed to combat drug trafficking and street crime.
The arrest took place on April 30 when Constable Parmod and Ct. Virender, on intensive patrolling duty, noticed a suspicious individual near Utsav Ground, adjacent to Mayo Public School in IP Extension. The individual’s nervous behavior led to his immediate apprehension.
Upon a lawful search, the police found a polythene bag containing suspected ganja. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be 50.88 grams of ganja. The necessary seizure procedures were conducted on-site under Section 55 NDPS Act.
Further investigation revealed that the accused’s possession of the stolen motorcycle was linked to a previous case under PS Rani Bagh. The vehicle was confiscated as case property, and a new FIR was registered at Police Station Madhu Vihar under Section 20 of the NDPS Act.
The accused, identified as Shiva @ Jiva, a 22-year-old resident of Kalyanpuri, confessed to committing theft and snatching to support his drug addiction. He admitted to stealing the motorcycle from the Rani Bagh area and purchasing ganja from a supplier near the Ghazipur landfill.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East District) Rajeev Kumar commended the police’s vigilance and proactive measures in combating drug abuse and street crime. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the drug supply network’s connections and identify other individuals involved in the case.
