The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police’s East District apprehended a 20-year-old man named Lakshya Chawla alias Lucky and seized a semi-automatic pistol with two live cartridges from him. The arrest thwarted a potential violent incident, as per a statement from the East District Police. A case has been filed under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Pandav Nagar Police Station in connection with the incident.
The operation, part of Delhi Police’s ongoing crackdown on illegal firearms in the capital, resulted in the recovery of the pistol and cartridges from the accused. Acting on specific intelligence received on June 28 about an individual carrying illegal arms in East Vinod Nagar, the AATS team set up a trap near the DTC Bus Depot in the area and apprehended the suspect.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had acquired the weapon to settle a personal feud. He admitted to procuring the pistol for retaliatory purposes against a rival due to past animosity and for self-defense. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the firearm’s source and any potential criminal associations of the suspect.
The successful operation, led by Inspector Anand Singh and his team from AATS, East District, with oversight from ACP (Operations) Pawan Kumar, highlights the Delhi Police’s emphasis on intelligence-driven policing and preemptive measures against illegal arms possession. This timely intervention prevented the potential misuse of the illegal firearm, reinforcing the efficacy of preventive policing efforts.
