Delhi Police’s Special Cell apprehended three alleged sharpshooters associated with the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang, along with two suspected arms suppliers, thwarting a planned shooting incident in the national capital aimed at extortion. The accused, acting on instructions from the incarcerated gangster Sangwan, were to open fire at a clinic in Delhi’s Chhawla area as part of an extortion scheme. Police recovered three semi-automatic pistols, four live cartridges, and three mobile phones from the suspects.
The operation, part of the crackdown on organized crime and extortion groups in Delhi-NCR, was based on technical surveillance and intelligence inputs. The gang had reportedly recruited shooters from Punjab to target a prominent location in southwest Delhi. After over a month of surveillance, the police identified and apprehended Abhishek from Amritsar on March 20, who disclosed the plan and named his accomplices during interrogation.
Subsequently, Sahil and Harshdeep alias Polu from Amritsar, along with Karan alias Ankush and Aman from Haryana’s Kaithal district, were arrested for arranging weapons and logistics for the shooters. The accused had scouted the clinic in Chhawla in February but postponed the plan due to a high crowd presence. Weapons, ammunition, and a motorcycle were procured through gang associates in Haryana, with mobile phones used for communication with Sangwan.
The arrests have struck a blow to the Nandu gang’s extortion operations and averted a significant shooting incident in the capital. Interrogations have provided insights into the gang’s structure and its tactics to evade law enforcement while conducting criminal activities. Some of the accused have prior criminal records in Punjab and Haryana. Investigations are ongoing to uncover more network members and the broader ecosystem supporting the gang’s extortion activities.
