Delhi Police arrested two individuals suspected of collaborating with Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti to carry out violent attacks in the Delhi-NCR region. The arrested suspects, Rajveer and Vivek Banjara, were recruited through social media and were following instructions from their handlers. The arrests were made after a successful intelligence-based operation by the Special Cell, preventing potential terror incidents in the area.
A pistol and live rounds were seized from Rajveer during the operation, along with incriminating videos and voice notes found on his mobile phones. The police action dismantled a criminal module associated with Bhatti, averting planned attacks in Delhi and nearby regions. Authorities had received prior intelligence suggesting plans for violent assaults by Bhatti and his accomplices, leading to the initiation of an investigation.
The breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of Banjara, who was traced to Gwalior and subsequently led to Rajveer’s apprehension. Rajveer, under Bhatti’s instructions, was preparing for a firing attack on a prominent hotel in the Delhi-NCR region at the time of his arrest. Further investigation uncovered a deeper conspiracy involving the recruitment of Rajveer and Banjara via social media by individuals linked to Bhatti.
Rajveer and Banjara had traveled to collect weapons as instructed by Bhatti, with failed attempts at carrying out attacks in Zirakpur and Faridkot. Despite their efforts, the planned assaults did not materialize due to various issues. Delhi Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to identify additional network links and prevent any potential future threats.
