The Delhi Police Crime Branch apprehended Paro, the mastermind of a cheating scheme preying on vulnerable women in hospitals and temples across the capital. Paro, aged 38 and a Bawana resident, had been on the run since 2023 and was a Proclaimed Offender in two cases, wanted for three cheating incidents in Delhi.
Operating with a consistent strategy, the gang targeted women alone or in vulnerable situations, especially at hospitals and temples. The crimes occurred at various locations in the city, suggesting a well-coordinated criminal pattern.
In response to the recurring crimes, the Central Range of the Crime Branch formed a team led by Inspector Vinay Kumar and supervised by ACP Satendra Mohan to track down the key figure behind the racket. After a month-long investigation involving CCTV footage analysis and local intelligence, Paro was finally captured on April 9 in Bawana.
The accused and her associates would engage victims in conversation, offering help or sharing personal stories to gain trust. They would then manipulate victims psychologically, often instilling fear or urgency to convince them to part with their valuables before fleeing the scene.
In a specific incident at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital on April 18, 2023, a woman fell victim to the gang’s deceptive tactics, losing her gold jewelry. Paro, educated up to Class 8 and residing in Bawana’s jhuggi clusters, gradually turned to criminal activities due to financial struggles, eventually becoming the gang leader.
