In a significant move as part of their anti-cybercrime initiative ‘Cyhawk 4.0,’ the Delhi Police South District recently shut down a fraudulent call center operating from Govindpuri and apprehended 11 individuals, including the masterminds. Among those arrested are Sandeep Chaudhary, Ashwini Kumar alias Tushar, Neeraj Gupta, and others, along with a female partner and around 20 female employees who have been summoned for questioning. The case unfolded following a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal about a fraud of Rs 13,200 by a Gurugram resident, leading investigators to a mule bank account used for illicit transactions nationwide.
A specialized team from Police Station Saket, led by Inspector Nagender Nagar and supervised by Inspector Dinesh Kumar and ACP Hauz Khas Rituraj, was formed due to the severity of the offense. The team, comprising several officers, conducted a raid at the Govindpuri office where they discovered an operational illegal call center with 31 employees engaged in tele-calling activities. The police seized various items during the raid, including mobile phones, laptops, SIM cards, medicines, and incriminating documents.
The accused individuals utilized social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to promote weight-loss products and then contacted interested individuals to make purchases. After initial deliveries to establish credibility, victims were coerced into making further payments, often without receiving the promised products or services. The main culprits, Sandeep Chaudhary, Ashwini Kumar, and Neeraj Gupta, had previous experience in similar fraudulent activities and had initiated this operation in May 2023. Investigations are ongoing to track financial transactions, identify more victims nationwide, and uncover any additional accomplices involved in the scam.
