New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) In a major crackdown on international narcotics trafficking, the Special Staff of Delhi Police’s South District on Friday dismantled an alleged Indo-Nepal drug syndicate and seized 106.250 kg of high-quality charas valued at approximately Rs 109 crore. Four Nepalese nationals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Police said the operation was the result of sustained Intelligence gathering, technical surveillance, field verification and coordinated action carried out over several weeks. The investigation, which began with the arrest of three alleged street-level suppliers, eventually led investigators to a major storage and distribution hub in Delhi.
According to Delhi Police, the syndicate was involved in the cross-border procurement, transportation, storage and distribution of charas across Delhi-NCR.
The successful operation was conducted by a team comprising SI Naveen Gurjar, SI Abhimanyu, SI Amit, ASI Padam, HC Rakesh, HC Virender, HC Manish, W/HC Sangeeta, Ct. Surender and Ct. Khoichung B. Aminol.
The team worked under the leadership of Inspector Anuj Kumar, In-Charge of Special Staff, and under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Balram Singh Beniwal and ACP Hauz Khas Rituraj.
Police said the breakthrough came through two Intelligence-led operations that formed part of a continuous investigation.
The first operation was carried out on June 29, after the Special Staff received specific information regarding the involvement of certain Nepalese nationals in supplying charas in Delhi-NCR. Acting on the input, the team tracked their movements and conducted a raid at a house in Kotla Mubarakpur.
During the raid, three accused, Bharat Thapa, 32, Govind Budha, 32, and Jyoti Pun Magar, 50 were apprehended. A total of 8.598 kg of charas was recovered from their possession.
Following the seizure, FIR No. 129/2026 was registered under Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Kotla Mubarakpur Police Station.
Investigators then began probing both the forward and backward linkages of the narcotics network. During the course of the investigation, the names of Binmaya and Roshni surfaced as alleged suppliers connected to the syndicate.
Police said that sustained interrogation of the arrested accused, coupled with technical surveillance, financial analysis and local Intelligence gathering, led the team to Roshni Magar, who was allegedly operating a major storage and distribution point in the Wazirabad area of Delhi.
After establishing her whereabouts, the Special Staff conducted a carefully planned raid at the identified premises on August 12, 2026. During the operation, officers recovered 97.652 kg of high-quality charas packed in 13 plastic bags. They also seized a mixing machine and packaging materials allegedly used for processing and distributing the narcotics.
With this recovery, the total seizure in the case rose to 106.250 kg of charas, making it one of the largest recoveries of the drug in recent times by the South District police. The estimated market value of the recovered contraband has been pegged at around Rs 109 crore.
Roshni Magar, 32, a Nepalese national, was arrested following the recovery. During interrogation, she allegedly disclosed that she had been part of the distribution network operated by Bharat Thapa, Govind Budha and Jyoti Pun Magar.
Police said that after the arrest of the three accused in June, she had returned to Nepal. Believing that the situation had cooled down, she recently came back to India and allegedly resumed her activities before being apprehended.
According to investigators, the syndicate procured charas through a Nepal-based supply network operating around the Indo-Nepal border near Sonauli. The contraband was then transported to Delhi through road routes and stored at different locations before being distributed across the National Capital Region.
Police said the accused relied on road transportation to avoid detection and evade law enforcement agencies. The network is also suspected of using social media platforms to coordinate drug orders and maintain contact with buyers and distributors.
Investigators further revealed that payments were allegedly received through both cash transactions and digital banking channels. The syndicate reportedly targeted areas with a high concentration of young consumers and used autorickshaws and bike taxis for deliveries. The accused are also alleged to have deleted digital communications after completing transactions to conceal their activities.
The investigation has identified Wazirabad and Majnu Ka Tila among the areas that were allegedly being used as demand centres. Police suspect that narcotics were supplied to local distributors and customers operating in and around pubs, bars and hotels in these areas.
During the probe, Binmaya, a Nepalese national, emerged as an alleged key source who is suspected of arranging the transportation of charas from the Sonauli border region to Delhi. Another Nepalese national, identified as Hari, has also surfaced as an alleged supplier linked to the network.
Police said efforts are underway to establish the exact roles of both individuals, trace their whereabouts and uncover the financial trail associated with the syndicate.
According to the available records, none of the four arrested accused has any known previous criminal involvement.
Further investigation is underway to identify additional members of the network, trace the Nepal-based suppliers, examine financial transactions and uncover local distributors and other associates connected to the syndicate.
