The Cyber Police Station in Shahdara district uncovered a sophisticated sextortion scheme that targeted individuals through social media and video calls. The alleged mastermind, operating from the Mewat region of Rajasthan, was apprehended following the arrest.
The accused lured victims via WhatsApp video calls, dating apps, and social media, coercing them with obscene videos. A case was filed under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a victim’s complaint.
The victim was manipulated into compromising situations during a video call, which was recorded by the fraudsters. Subsequently, the victim was threatened with the circulation of the video on social media unless a ransom of Rs 1 lakh was paid.
