Delhi Police strongly denounced the assaults on their personnel amidst the ongoing demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. They emphasized that officers, despite wearing uniforms, are not immune to pain and have families and responsibilities beyond their badges. A video shared by the police on social media depicted the nighttime unrest, showing physical clashes between protesters and security forces. The footage concluded with images of Inspector Nand Kishore Singh, visibly injured with bandages and bloodstains after the attack.
Inspector Nand Kishore Singh, who was a victim of the violence, narrated the events and alleged that he was targeted while carrying out his official duties at the protest site. He described how he was surrounded by a group armed with sticks and stones who shouted threats and proceeded to assault him. Singh disclosed that he sustained injuries to his head and other body parts during the incident.
Singh, recounting the ordeal, clarified that he was in uniform and on duty when the assault occurred. He suggested that the attack seemed premeditated due to the weapons carried by the assailants. The officer expressed his belief that the perpetrators deliberately planned to target police officers whenever they encountered them. He also claimed that the attackers were not students but individuals who specifically aimed to harm law enforcement personnel.
The protests at Jantar Mantar are related to the NEET paper leak issue, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities.
