As New Delhi gears up for New Year festivities, the Delhi Police have ramped up security measures with Operation Aaghat 3.0, resulting in the arrest of 285 individuals in the South-East district. The crackdown, aimed at preventing crimes during the holiday season, led to the confiscation of illegal weapons, drugs, illicit liquor, cash, and stolen goods. Coordinated raids were carried out at vulnerable spots to apprehend suspects involved in criminal activities, focusing on reducing offenses related to arms, narcotics, excise violations, gambling, and property crimes to ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors.

Officials reported that 285 suspects were detained under various laws including the Arms Act, Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act. Additionally, 504 people were taken into custody as a preventive measure, while 1,306 individuals were detained as a precautionary step to prevent any untoward incidents during the holiday period. The operation also targeted 116 habitual offenders, 10 property offenders, and five auto-lifters, with a specific emphasis on dismantling vehicle theft networks to prevent disruptions during the celebrations.

During the crackdown, law enforcement authorities seized 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives from the suspects. They also confiscated 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor, 6.01 kg of ganja, and cash amounting to Rs 2,30,990 in anti-gambling efforts. Stolen property recoveries included 310 mobile phones reported as snatched, robbed, or lost, along with the seizure or recovery of 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler during the raids.

Operation Aaghat 3.0 is part of a series of enforcement actions by the Delhi Police. Previous phases in September and October resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of firearms and narcotics, respectively. The police emphasized that such intelligence-driven operations will continue to ensure law and order, bolster security, and maintain peace across the city during the upcoming New Year and holiday season.
