In a breakthrough in a money fraud and extortion case, the Delhi Police Crime Branch apprehended a wanted accused linked to a blackmailing incident in Gurugram, Haryana. The accused allegedly extorted Rs 3 lakh from the victim and demanded an additional Rs 15 lakh under threat of circulating objectionable videos, totaling Rs 18 lakh.
The accused had been evading arrest for weeks, changing locations to avoid detection. Acting on intelligence, the Crime Branch team captured the accused near Patiala House Courts in New Delhi on April 23, culminating in his arrest at Tilak Marg.
The case originated from a complaint filed at Palam Vihar Police Station in Gurugram on March 21 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The victim alleged that the accused, whom she met during yoga classes amid the pandemic, developed a close relationship and extorted money by secretly recording objectionable videos.
