In a significant breakthrough against organized interstate crime, the Delhi Police Crime Branch’s WR-II unit has captured a notorious interstate dacoit who had been on the run for over two decades. The arrested individual, known by various aliases, is a key member of the infamous Hawa Singh Bawaria gang, linked to multiple cases of dacoity and robbery across northern India.
The accused, identified as Dharampal alias Dharampal Bawaria, was wanted in numerous criminal cases in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. He had managed to evade authorities since 2005 when he escaped from Uttar Pradesh Police custody. Dharampal, around 60 years old, was apprehended in Haryana’s Bhiwani district after extensive surveillance by the Crime Branch.
Police records show that Dharampal had a reward on his head declared by both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Police forces. The arrest is considered a significant achievement for the Delhi Police in their efforts to apprehend long-absconding interstate offenders involved in organized criminal activities.
The accused, a proclaimed offender in several cases, had been involved in at least 11 criminal cases, including dacoity and robbery. He had been associated with the Hawa Singh Bawaria gang since the late 1990s and disclosed the gang’s involvement in various criminal activities across multiple states.
Investigators revealed that Dharampal had been actively involved in major dacoity and robbery cases with the gang members. He had managed to evade arrest by frequently changing identities and residences. Further interrogation is ongoing to determine his involvement in additional cases and identify other absconding gang members.
