Delhi Police has registered an FIR at Kartavya Path Police Station, invoking the charge of attempted murder in connection with the violence near Rail Bhawan and Parliament during a protest march on July 20. The case includes serious offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The FIR, based on a complaint by an Inspector at Kartavya Path Police Station, details the events that transpired on Rafi Marg during the protest. It mentions that the complainant was on duty at C-Hexagon, Zone-11 (Pink Booth) from 5:00 a.m. onwards as part of security measures in the high-security zone.
According to the FIR, the police team responded to information received over the wireless network and rushed to the barricades near Rail Bhawan roundabout, where a large group of protesters had gathered. Despite warnings about prohibitory orders and lack of permission for the protest, the demonstrators reportedly refused to disperse and continued chanting slogans.
Police alleged in the complaint that certain individuals in the crowd incited protesters to breach the barricades and move towards Parliament. The FIR also accuses protesters of surrounding police personnel, assaulting them, and damaging public and private property. To restore order, security forces resorted to a lathi-charge and used tear gas shells.
