A senior Delhi Police official has accused Pakistan of exploiting the situation in India by orchestrating a coordinated misinformation campaign on social media. The official, in a video message on Instagram, highlighted the involvement of foreign-backed social media accounts in spreading divisive content. Over 400 Pakistani social media accounts have been identified by intelligence teams for actively disseminating false narratives, many of which were previously active during Operation Sindoor, indicating a pattern of repeated interference.
Authorities have taken steps to block these accounts and limit their influence across various platforms. The official emphasized that Pakistan is capitalizing on the current situation in India to deliberately spread misinformation and incite unrest. These social media accounts are manipulating sensitive issues through manipulated videos, unverified claims, and provocative content with the sole aim of causing trouble.
The senior officer urged citizens to be vigilant and exhibit responsible social media behavior. He advised the public to fact-check all posts, especially those involving videos or originating from anonymous sources, before sharing them. Emphasizing the importance of not spreading rumors, the official cautioned against letting anti-social elements manipulate emotions.
Amid escalating protests and public discussions on recent events, the official acknowledged the democratic right to peaceful protest while underscoring the necessity of exercising this right responsibly. Delhi Police sources revealed that cyber cells are continuously monitoring suspicious activities and collaborating with central agencies and social media platforms to counter the threat.
Officials warned that sharing unverified content could inadvertently assist anti-national elements and result in legal consequences under relevant cyber and public order laws. The growing concerns over hybrid warfare tactics, where foreign actors exploit digital platforms to amplify domestic divisions, have raised alarms within security agencies. Similar campaigns have been flagged by security agencies during periods of social or political tension in the past.
