The Delhi Police faced criticism for their handling of a protest led by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to the Parliament, where police officers sustained injuries due to clashes with unruly elements mixed among the protestors. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Anand Kumar Mishra emphasized the importance of peaceful protests within the boundaries of the law. Despite efforts to coordinate with the organizers, the protest deviated from the planned route, leading to confrontations.
Mishra highlighted the extensive security measures in place to safeguard participants and key installations like the Parliament. He mentioned that the peaceful march turned violent as some individuals within the crowd began breaking barricades, attacking officers, and vandalizing property. Assistant Sub-Inspector Datta Barade recounted the challenges faced by the police in controlling a large crowd of around 10,000 people who defied orders and engaged in stone-pelting.
Barade described how the protestors disregarded warnings about the illegality of their actions and the consequences of violating prohibitory orders. Despite attempts to reason with the crowd, they continued to advance towards the Parliament, resulting in injuries to both police personnel and senior officers. The situation escalated as the protestors intensified their aggression, leading to injuries among the law enforcement officials.
Delhi Police officer Naveen Ola echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the challenges faced in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all present during the protest. The unruly behavior of the crowd, including stone-pelting, caused injuries to several officers, necessitating medical attention at the RML hospital. The officers reiterated that efforts to control the situation peacefully were met with resistance from certain elements within the protest group.
