In a significant move against interstate narcotics trafficking, Delhi Police confiscated 765.6 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 2.30 crore and arrested four individuals involved in an interstate drug trafficking network. The operation spanned multiple states, including Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, culminating in the successful apprehension of the suspects. This crackdown was part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and the broader campaign against narcotics trafficking.
The Anti-Narcotics Squad of Delhi’s Outer District, acting on specific intelligence, closely monitored the movement of drug traffickers before launching the operation. Inspector Virender Sindhu, with the supervision of the ACP (Operations), led a dedicated team that intercepted one of the accused, Ashok Kumar, near Madhuban Chowk in Pitampura, leading to the recovery of 22.610 kg of ganja. Subsequently, a case was registered under the NDPS Act, and Ashok Kumar was taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed that Ashok Kumar was involved in transporting a larger consignment of 285 kg of ganja in a truck, having been previously arrested in a separate case in Haryana’s Gurugram district. The police identified Inderjeet Ray, also known as ‘Ajeet Singh,’ as the supplier from Odisha. Tracking Inderjeet Ray and his associate, Nitish Kumar, led to the recovery of 743 kg of ganja from a rented godown in Ludhiana.
The total seizure during the operation amounted to 765.6 kg of ganja, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 2.30 crore. The accused disclosed that the godown in Ludhiana was used to store ganja before distribution across Haryana and Punjab. Investigations are ongoing to uncover more network members and trace the source and distribution chain of the seized contraband.
