Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood introduced two initiatives in East Delhi to upgrade power infrastructure and promote clean energy. The initiatives include a Smart Pad Mounted Substation at Gandhi Nagar and the “Solarise East” campaign. This campaign aims to increase rooftop solar system connections under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The event saw the presence of Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra, along with other dignitaries. Sood highlighted the Delhi government’s strategic approach towards the power sector, emphasizing an investment of Rs 1,427 crore in Power Sector Capex within a year. This investment is geared towards meeting current needs and preparing for future energy demands.
Delhi recently reached its highest-ever Peak Power Demand of 8,748 MW without facing significant power outages. Sood emphasized the importance of a reliable electricity system for a modern city, touching on the critical role power plays in various sectors like industries, healthcare, and daily life. The government’s focus remains on ensuring a modern, sustainable, and efficient power supply for all residents.
