A formal notification has been issued to reorganize Delhi’s 11 districts into 13 new administrative units, as well as define the jurisdictions of Registrars for existing Sub-Registrar Offices. The reorganization, effective immediately, aims to establish modern ‘Mini Secretariats’ in all 13 districts, offering various services at a single location.
The restructuring will increase the number of districts from 11 to 13 and sub-divisions from 33 to 39, enhancing officials’ workload balance and service delivery efficiency. The boundaries of the 13 districts will align with those of the Municipal Corporation, NDMC, and the Delhi Cantonment Board, facilitating governance clarity and inter-departmental coordination.
The Chief Minister highlighted the historical misalignment between revenue district boundaries and those of Municipal Corporation zones, NDMC, and Delhi Cantonment Board, causing service delays and administrative challenges. The expansion aims to create smaller, balanced districts for improved service coordination, grievance redressal, and monitoring in Delhi’s evolving urban landscape.
District administration is emphasized as crucial for effective governance and citizen-government interaction, especially in a growing and complex city like Delhi. The increase in districts from 11 to 13 is intended to enhance organization, effectiveness, and accountability in the district administration system.
