New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) In a remarkable display of efficiency, coordination, and commitment to public service, the Delhi Traffic Police once again demonstrated its life-saving capabilities by creating a special Green Corridor to ensure the seamless transfer of a liver transplant patient from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for an urgent medical procedure.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday evening to facilitate the timely transportation of a patient identified as Chauhan, who needed to board a flight to Hyderabad for a critical liver transplant surgery. The coordinated effort enabled the ambulance to navigate through heavy peak-hour traffic and reach the airport without delay.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, information regarding the requirement of a Green Corridor was received at around 4.30 p.m. Following the alert, personnel from the Traffic Circle Karol Bagh immediately swung into action. Head Constable Sunny established contact with the liaison officer, Tarun, and created a dedicated WhatsApp group to ensure real-time communication and coordination among all concerned officials involved in the operation.
To guarantee a smooth passage for the ambulance, HCs Hemraj and Sukhvinder escorted the vehicle on motorcycles, clearing the route ahead and facilitating uninterrupted movement.
Simultaneously, HC Mahender Singh managed traffic regulation along the designated corridor, while Constables Pradeep Nain and Pankaj continuously monitored live traffic conditions and coordinated with various traffic circles to address potential congestion points.
Despite the challenges posed by heavy evening rush-hour traffic in the national capital, the ambulance successfully covered the nearly 20 km stretch from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to IGI Airport’s Terminal 4 in just 20 to 22 minutes.
The swift transit ensured that the patient reached the airport in time to board the flight to Hyderabad, where the life-saving liver transplant surgery was scheduled.
The patient’s family expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for the prompt and dedicated efforts of the Delhi Traffic Police, acknowledging that the timely intervention played a crucial role in facilitating the patient’s medical journey.
A few months ago, the force had created another rapid Green Corridor during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match, enabling the transfer of injured Delhi Capitals cricketer Lungi Ngidi from Arun Jaitley Stadium to a hospital in just 11 minutes.
