Delhi’s women’s cricket team broke a 14-year trophy drought by clinching the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy. They dominated the final, bowling out Railways for 132 and chasing the target in under 29 overs. Opener Priya Punia’s 76 off 90 balls played a crucial role in securing the victory.
The win marked Delhi’s first title since 2011/12 and showcased their strength as only the second team to win the trophy more than once. DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma expressed pride in the team’s performance, emphasizing the positive impact on women’s cricket in Delhi. The association’s investment in women’s cricket has started yielding significant results.
Delhi’s success was attributed to the dedicated coaching staff, including head coach Deepti Dhyani and assistant coaches. The coaching team’s efforts were highlighted for guiding the players to victory in the tournament. The celebrations were set to honor the team’s achievement, with plans for a felicitation ceremony and increased prize money.
